Portugal is well renowned for its golf and a
favourite for golf holidays, with countless quality
golf courses and a year round climate perfect
for the great game. In 1999 the Algarve situated
in south western Portugal was given the great
title of the ‘World Golf Destination of
the Year’ by the International Golf Travels
Awards. As you can imagine the golfing scene has
to be particularity amazing to be elected for
such a award. The best thing being there is no
more flooded and wet greens to skim your ball
through for that birdie putt. Its mild climate
in the winter means that a winter golfing holiday
is also possible.
More and more golf courses are being planned
so the future of golf in Portugal and the Algarve
can only continue to get better…
Portugal’s Climate
Having been blessed with a holiday climate that
can entice visitors all year round, boosting 300
days of sunshine each year, and in its south western
regions of Algarve temperatures reaching in to
the 30’s if its good weather you are after,
you can’t go to wrong far wrong with a holiday
to Portugal. Although no rain at all can never
be guaranteed.
Due to its geography Portugal does receive a
slightly varying climate as you travel down the
country. It is said that northern Portugal has
more of an Atlantic climate while central and
as you journey further down to the south, more
of a Mediterranean climate can be found.
Portugal Airports and Transport
Main land Portugal has three international airports
and both Madeira and Azores, Portuguese Islands
have one. Flight time to either of the three (Lisbon,
Faro and Porto) from most Europe cities will take
only approximately 3 hours. A plus if you suffer
from jet lag from longer flight times. There is
a very good road network and with rent a car companies
widely available in all the major cities, its
possible to get out and do some independent exploring.
