Holiday to the Island of Skiathos - Greece
With its marvellous beach resorts and first-rate
night life, Skiathos is one of the smaller holiday
islands of Greece, located in the north-western
of the Aegean. Skiathos island is becoming
a very popular holiday destination in Greece
and is rivalling the more common holiday islands
of Rhodes and Corfu. Its situated in a group of
islands called the Sporades. There is only one
actually real town in Skiathos simply called Skiathos
Town and is the islands capital and has a pretty
little harbour stroke port.
Legends say that after the gods had made Mount
Olympus. The has a few pebbles left over, so it’s
said that they through them out into the sea and
more one of these pebbles came the island of Skiathos.
Soft white beaches are common place making Skiathos
a holiday paradise for beach lovers.
Skiathos has over 60 beaches and coves to choose
from. The two most famous would be Koukounaries
and Lalaria Beach rated two of the best in Greece.
There are enough beaches to ensure that even in
the height of the holiday season there will still
be beaches un-crowded and some will remain virtually
empty.

Most tourists accommodate the
south and southeast coasts of the island. The
north of the island is mostly inaccessible because
of its coarseness of terrain but can be seen
by boat and is definitely worth a trip because
of its beautiful caves. In fact the whole of
Skiathos can be circumnavigated with a speed
boat in as little as a couple of hours.
Travelling to Skiathos - Greece
Being a small island only 12 kilometres
long and 6 km in width, there is only one airport
catering for international flights. Another
option is to fly into the main land to Athens
and then picking up a internal flight, which
will roughly take an hour. But during May to
October there will be regular flights directly
to the island. When arranging travel bear in
mind travel operators will try and sell you
a complete holiday package but it is
possible just to buy flights.
