the south west Pacific Ocean. Getting to the islands
of Fiji is easy from the United Sates.
International flights with Air New Zealand, Air
Pacific and Qantas leave from Los Angles. The
international airport that you enter Fiji at is
in Nadi. The flight will take approximately 10
and half hours. You can also pick up flights from
Hawaii, Melbourne, Brisbane, Auckland and Tokyo
airports. At present no shots are needed to travel
to Fiji obviously a valid passport is required.
Visas can be obtained when you arrive and allow
you to stay in Fiji for up to 4 months.
Kava Drinking in Fiji
If you do decide to try Fiji for
your next holiday. There’s little doubt
that you won’t come across the Fijians traditional
custom of kava drinking custom or ‘yaqona’
in there language. Sat in a circle a bowl of drink
prepared from a root from the pepper family is
passed round. Each person in turn drinks from
the same coconut whilst chatting and listening
to music. Kava may take a little while to get
use to. But it’s the act of sharing that
makes the experience so enjoy able. A bond is
created and a closeness and acceptance into there
circle of friends and family.
Currency of Fiji
The currency used in Fiji currently
is the Fiji Dollar. When holidaying around Fiji
its best to keep some smaller change as the taxi
drivers are always running out of change. Traveller’s
cheques are the easiest and safest way of bringing
in money to the country. They can easily be changed
at the banks of hotels and if they do go missing/
lost you can still get your money back. To give
you an example of how much things will cost on
your holiday in Fiji, a bottle of beer will be
around 3 American dollars, a loaf of bread just
over 1 dollar.
